Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of amenities on top of the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
